My Pyracantha bush still has lots of berries - the birds didn't seem to strip them last winter despite the weather. Should I remove them before the bush starts flowering again?

You can if you want to, they do look a bit unsightly if you wait for them to shrivel or rot and drop off.

OK thanks, they look OK at the moment so I may leave them for another week or so and then remove them. The birds were very ungrateful this year lol.

Well, funny thing is, I know lots of people say the birds love pyracantha berries, but that's not been something I've noticed - quite a few of the ones I've dealt with over the years still have their berries in Spring.

Usually the blackbirds strip the bush quite early on in the winter, but this year there didn't seem to be an awful lot of blackbirds about. Even in the past few weeks, there have only been two or three in the gardens around me. One year they did build a nest in the bush and lay eggs but the magpies drove them out and it was abandoned.

Thank you for your reply.
