When and how to prune an Olive Tree?
By Homemaker

I planted an olive tree in my front south facing garden about 3 years ago. It has grown vigourously and now resembles an unkempt bush rather than a tree. I understand that it is meant to be half hardy and I am concerned about how and when I should prune. I'd be grateful for any tips.

hi homemaker
just cut off the bottom side shoots. decide which stem is the strongest. then remove all the others. it sounds a bit drastic but when you've finished it should have changed from a bush to a little tree. i always trim the growing tips to get a more formal shape but it depends on how you want it to look.
