Why did my rambling roses not flower this year. I have lots of vigourous growth but no flowers. This was the first year after I planted them,

Many varieties of ramblers bloom only once, in June (in the Northeast). Yours may not be well enough established to flower. If you prune it, only do so immediately after flowering is over, or you will be cutting off flower buds. It would be helpful to know the name of the rose variety.
