seeds

Asked on 5 Sep, 2008

Most years I take seeds from my plants for propagating the following year.
But the weather has been that WET and DAMP only a few have ripened sufficiently.
My question is, can I take half ripe and unripe seed heads and ripen them by storing in paper bags somewhere cool and dry in home.even the greenhouse is damp

The best thing to do apparently is to tie paper bags around the seedheads so that they ripen inside then you can cut them off. No advice was given as to how to keep the bags from going soggy, though! They won't germinate if they are not ripe, and I am not at all sure if they will ever ripen indoors off the plant, Bren..

I wouldn't think the wet weather would prevent seed from ripening in most cases...?
