I have a large patio on which i would like to grow a cented white clematis which would be low maintenance and could be trained over a large wire network over the entire patio area, please could you advise, the area concerned has full sun and is south facing.

Not an easy one. However, I have found Clematis 'Fair Rosamund' which is white with a light pink bar, or Clematis flammula which has small all-white flowers. The C.armandii species are evergreen and flower early, these are also scented. I hope that this helps.

One thing to remember is that clematis likes to have its roots somewhere cool and shady - something to bear in mind with a south facing patio
