How do I get my fennel to swell into a bulb at the base? I have tried it 2 years running, but it doesn't swell, then flowers and seeds

Have you bought bulb fennel seed? Siound slike its normal Fennel fennel...

I agree. You need to grow the forms that produce the swollen leaf bases. Normal Fennel will not do it.

Buy seeds of Florence Fennel.

Florence fennel needs a very sunny spot to do well, and bolts at the slightest chance! It hates to be transplanted too, so sow it in situ.
