My spring planted climbers, clematis and honeysuckle(in large planters) are now nearly 12ft tall and still growing. Should i cut them back now to encourage growth lower down the stem. My trellis is only 6ft so above this theyre supportes on canes

No, don't cut them back now. Honeysuckle, where you live, best done in Spring, when you can reduce the height and remove any dead or weak wood, though a light trim, or removal of a few overly long growths won't do too much harm now. As for the Clematis, depends which variety you have, the pruning is different for different varieties.
