I have an apple tree which has lots of apples every year but they are small and many fall off. Can anyone please advise me how to prune its many branches and hopefully improve it.

Do you know which variety it is? Small fruits falling off in June is quite normal. Could it be a crab apple? Pruning will not help fruit size, you would need to thin out the ones that are left after the June drop. Also, you could try giving it a good feed and mulch next spring. Use sulphate of potash.
