when they self seed do you need to pinch the growing tip out

On plant Verbena bonariensis

On the new seedlings to get more, but shorter flower spikes, Sheila? Or are you referring to deadheading the parents to prevent seed formation?

As soon as the seedlings have 6-8 true leaves, pinch out the growing tip. That should slow the growth and force it to make several main stems, instead of one or two.
