TULIPS
TULIPS
Asked on 26 Jul, 2008
Has there been a problem with tulips this year? None of the tulips in any of my containers came up this year. Last year they did well . Should they be lifted every year or the bulbs replaced which makes it rather expensive? Any advice would be appreciated. Margaret, Leeds, W.Yorks.

I have to admit that I do replace my container tulips each year, Firstly, because I like to change the colour scheme, secondly, because I never think that they do very well the second year. I plant them out in a corner of the garden and they flower there but not as well. You can store them over winter if you keep them dry and frost-free and then re-plant in new compost.
