I have a Cordyline that is displaying red flowers from a huge middle stem. Is this unusual? Photo is from a week ago. Thank you.

No, they do flower quite often. Is it a Cordyline, though, or a Yucca?

its a yucka i bet its painfully pointed on the end of those leaves.

It looks like a Yucca recurvifolia, GAC, one of the showier and hardier species. Once it's done blooming, carefully cut the dead flower stem out, so it doesn't interfere with the new rosette(s) developing at it's base.
