After Christmas I rescued a rhododendron shrub from the skip where my daughter-in-law had put it. I put it into a new pot with some ericaceous compost and it has thrived producing some beautiful deep red blooms. The flowers were over some months ago but all of a sudden it has now produced some white flowers. What has caused this and is it normal?

Are you absolutely certain the white flowers are coming from the rhododendron, and not an invading plant you just haven't noticed intertwined with it? What are the white flowers like to look at? Are they trumpet shaped?
