I have these strange little bugs on my acers, they look like a flattened wood lice and are sitting on a sort of white web i keep scraping them off but keep finding more. what are they and how do i get rid/stop them

Probably scale insect - wash off with soap and water and wipe over with a cloth and a little methylated spirits, or go and buy some Provado Ultimate - I think that treats for scale, but check the container before buying.
