Looking after gauras
Asked on 17 Jul, 2008
This question is on Gaura lindheimeri
We mistakenly planted a gaura in a tub and it has grown huge. How do we over winter it? Should we take the rhizome out in autumn or spring, then plant it in the ground in a flower bed?

I think they are noted for being quite short lived plants anyway.

Some of the Gauras are not hardy - if you are in a cold area prone to frosts, it may need some winter protection. G.lindheimerei has survived in my garden, but I have lost others. Could you take the whole tub into a greenhouse or coldframe? I should think it looks wonderful in a tub, it'd such a graceful plant.
