When do I need to prune my tamarisk tree?

By Tedg

I have a tamarisk tree[3 years old]it has been glorious this year, but is only just turning pink at the tip of each branch. When do I need to prune as it is getting rather large

On plant Tamarix

After its flowered normally otherwise you lose the blossom (mine flowers in the spring!) but any time of the year it can get a hair cut!! It is a strong plant used to salty, windy places so if you want to keep it a certain height keep cutting it. Mine has grown into my hedge and it gets cut when I do my hedge.

I work on the principle that if a shrub (or climber) flowers before June 30th, it is flowering on last year's wood and should be pruned immedaiately after it has flowered. If it flowers in the second half of the year, it is flowering on new wood and is pruned in early spring

How do I say thanks?
