Yes they look wonderful in their pink feathery blossom. They do well here too, and are often used as a hedge in the middle of motorways etc.

yes mine is an early one too, i think mine was spring time if i remeber rightly, did'nt realise there was a later one, this is lovely spritz, only hope mine looks like this in a few years time. mine is only 2 years old but already well over 7ft tall, once it gets better established i am going to remove the lower growth so that it takes a tree shape - i have seen one in a garden down the road from me that has been trained in this way and it is stunning!

There's one in a nearby village that flowers months earlier! I expect it's the one you have, Chris.

to be honest Spritz don't know the variety, i bought in Woolworths year before last, so proberly one of the most common ones, it was only a tiny sprig, i grew it on in a pot for a year and planted it out last spring and it now stands about 5ft high, this is the first year it has flowered and it has only flowered on a side shoot, nothing on the main stem at all, do you know why this might be? and also how and when is best to prune them?

I know it's a Tamarisk, but it's so different from the variety that I've got, which flowers in the summer. How old is it?

I've got 5 of these. They grow well here in our sandy soil.

These trees are very common here Lori. They are often used along the side of motorways etc. I will put up another pic soon when it is much fluffier. I've got Cotinus too in my garden, their fluffy flower heads look more like smoke, a bit different to the Tamarisk.

This is a unique plant...have you googled it recently? interesting reading.
I do love the frothy blossom, it's frothy florescence is very like cotinus coggyria (sp) isn't it?
the older I get the worse my spelling becomes!

I agree Bonkers, this shrub is a good idea as motorways can be pretty boring. We sometimes have colourful oleanders brightening up the middle of our autostrade.
