We have a mature calistemon which flowered profusely most years. But it has suffered badly in the hard winter. There are still some green shoots Do you think I can risk giving it a hard pruning & then some good feeding?

Yes, but just prune out all the dead branches.Trim each one a little at a time until you cut into green wood.
