Is it in a pot, and if so, how long has it been in the same pot?

This is just the plant having its 'Autumn'. Evergreens need to replace their leaves once a year, they do it in spring not autumn. It will soon sprout new leaves (look for red pointy buds). Now is the time to prune it into the shape that you want it to be (lollipop etc) as then you won't be cutting off the new shoots. It may look a little bare until the new shoots sprout.
