have tried growing some radishes from seed---sprouted no problem and first pair of leaves appeared no problem but now that the middle pair of leaves have appeared the outside pair of leaves are curling and shrivelling--what have i done wrong??

the first leaves do shrivel and die, that is their job done. They are called cotyledons and provide the new seedling with the ability to grow/photosynthesise. Once the next true leaves get up and working they are obsolete.
