What causes the round holes to appear in our lawn? Is it caused by slugs or snails and what can be done to cure it?

hi, if the holes are small and some top soil around them it will be worms doing this

If none of the above then maybe it's "Squirrels", bain of my life, they have robed the birds of so much food this winter, now they are digging up all the food they hid last year............

A photo would be good, but otherwise, more info - what diameter are these holes you're talking about? Are there raised areas around them, or earth on top of the lawn?
