First frost of note where I am (by the river in Winchester). Almost a relief as it's nearly Nov. Got the chickens up, walked the ferrets for a bit, and now got my hands firmly round a big mug of tea. Still loads in flower. Out of interest, when did frost hit up north?

I'll quickly add - only grass frost, nothing serious!

Close last night, but if it hit, it had gone before 8.0.am.

Here at around 6am it was 5c but as it got lighter the sky cleared and the temp fell to 3.5c. Quite late in the year, its not unusual to have september frosts

Nothing here as yet either. We've usually had one by now and last year we had had our first little snow fall by now. Temps forecast down to 3 degrees during the night here.

No frost here yet - possibly this Sunday night going by forecast. My first frost did not occur until the 1st Dec last year.

I was up in the Cairngorms the other week and there was frost at mid day in Highland Perthshire and up Cairngorm - both are over 1500 feet though. My house is 20 metres above sea leave. Cairngorm summit recorded the first frost of this winter on the 31-Aug-13.

East Midlands - First hint of something a bit harder than just condensation on car windscreen 6 am this morning - wiped off with wiper blades but left a definite slushy line.

Do we hope for a good hard winter to kill off the pests or a mildish one for the sake of the birds and other nice critters?

The weather is about to change! Our peanut feeders have been hanging abandoned by the birds for the last month; today they were back in use with sparrows, bluetits and woody woodpecker.

We had our first frosts on Friday and saturday night (8&9Nov) and they have strted skiing Cairngorm.
Nice and mild again now!

I had the first frost on the 5th (-2C). Frazzled the Dahlia and Musa leaves and a few other tenders like Tithonia. Canna are all still unfazed. I thought my Kangaroo Paw (solanium) would be the first casualty but it is proving hardier than one thought.

How do I say thanks?
