the streptacarpus, does it prefer peat or lime?

Ordinary potting compost is fine - they don't have a special requirement for either.

thank you, so whether it's alkali or acid it doesn't matter? i'm asking for a friend.

Most potting compost is neutral - except for ericaceous, which is acid - I assume your friend is in Britain and will be growing it in pots? And its not a case of either acid or alkaline (lime), there is a third option - neutral ph.

As long as he doesn't use a loam based compost.....a no-no for streps....

I would check also that there are no vine weevil larvae present in the compost.I lost half a dozen plants last year - the larvae eat the roots and this can cause wilting.
