Is this a multi-purpose compost? Or a special one you bought? I tend to buy a multi-purpose type, then it's OK for everything apart from acid-lovers, that is! If you mean garden soil, no, I wouldn't use it to pot up plants - it will be full of weed seeds and no special nutrients and will give you problems.
