is it true that when a rose bush gets 7 leaves on one stem that it has turned wild? if so what do you do with it besides taking it out?

Suckers grow from the roots, below soil level. They look very different from the branches that will bear the flowers. They tend to be straight, vigorous and tall. I haven't counted the leaves! You need to dig away the soil carefully and pull off the stem, don't cut it off, as this will encourage more suckers.
