Much depends on what type of cherry you have. If it is a bush or standard tree, either sweet or acid, then June is the best time. A sweet fan is Spring and july and after picking and an acid fan is Spring and May and after picking.
Don't prune now because of silver leaf and canker setting in over the winter. A quick peep at the RHS site will tell you a lot.
