This is a real beauty when in bloom &, because of its growth habit, quite different.
I bought a Heavenly Blue at a car boot last weekend as I thought that it would make a nice foil to my Electric Blue, but the spot that I had in mind is too small really.

They do spread to 2 feet across quite quickly - they look very good with Salvia's/Sages ... and believe it or not, Lungwort; especially if the salvias are verigated. The lungwort starts that "am I blue or am I pink" thing going followed nicely by the penstemon then the Salvia taking in back through via pinks and lilacs back to blue. I've got a large tub I'm going to try that with properly for next year.
I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of this Huskers Red in full flight, Meanie.

Can't wait to see this flower. All of my Penstemon seemed to make it through the winter green (exactly the same as you) ... lovely fresh new growth through April, then that nasty frost at the begining of May wiped out all but two of my Heavenly Blue - one of which I have had to mound-up to try to ecourage to plump-up or at least give me chance to propogate. The other is doing fine and just coming into flower.
