Fritillaria sewerzowii (brown form) - 2011 (Fritillaria sewerzowii)

This is a bulb I saw growing wild in Kazakhstan; it is now growing happily in my garden in gritty soil in full sun

How very unusual! Dug it up from there did you Andrew? lol

Tetrarch - if I was a Victorian plant collector, I probably would have done. But as it is now illegal (and i don't want to spend time in a Kazakh prison), I bought it here from a specialist bulb firm.
The flower colour varies from yellow through orange to brown (luckily this is a particularly good colour form).
I noticed I have a yellow one coming into flower in another part of the garden so I'll try and post a photo of it soon

Duh! And here was I thinking you were an intrepid plant collector. Ah well, those were the days (not that I remember them of course..not quite anyway.) Still Kazakhstan quite an unusual place to visit.
