The Scabious which I planted in July are only now in full flower! Should I cut them down before they are damaged by rain/frost etc?

I wouldn't! I'd enjoy them while you can - there's no rule that says you have to cut them back on one particular date, after all....you can dead-head them when they've finished. My 'Chile' series are just opening their second flush of flowers and they look great!
