Eventually it will form a clump about three feet across and the flower stems could reach double that in ideal conditions. It is a waterside plant and needs a moist soil or its toes in shallow water. Flowers in spring before the leaves appear (I'll try and get a picture of a flower on here when it blooms)

Members' notes...
A tough cookie. Recently helped with the restoration of a garden planted in the 1920s which had suffered 30 years of neglect. This one had survived
In Jess' garden
Unusual plant that flowers before any leaves appear.
The flower stalk shoots out of the ground and can be upto 2ft (60/65cm) tall. The leaves then start to develop and are very large, about the size of a dinner plate.
Good plant for moist shade. Slugs do not seem to be a problem.
