Yes I grew from seed too bought locally. I discovered that there are a lot of seeds in a packet. I've got at least 4 patches in different parts of the garden. The shadier places are not flowering yet.

thanks David, the colours in this pic were a pure fluke, don't ask my how it happened, maybe because i had the camera set on close up rather than auto, and the picture was taken at dusk. i really loved the way it came out even tho the flower is a much brighter yellow in reality i think this is an interesting effect and worth including!

I love these easy to grow traditional flowers. I have lots in my garden too.

This seeds itself during the summer.
bought from T & M autumn 2007.
height 16-18" hardy annuall sow march to may outside, light well drained soil in full sun flowers throughout the summer.
i have bought these to fill any gaps at the front of the woodland bed, right hand bed and also the front garden.
15th march sown 1/2 the pack in the back garden along woodland and right hand beds, and a few in the front. i am saving the others for along the washing line area but it will need some digging over first!
bought pack of seeds on bogof deal in woolies late march 2008 i have thrown them all along righ hand and woodland beds.
7th April 2008. Planted a packet seeds in front yellow bed and in side garden. ?Also some in beds near path.

Colourfull self-seeding hardy annual.
Large bright orange or yellow single & double flowers mid-summer to late autumn, yield a dye & can be dried to give colour to pot-pourri.
Any soil, full sun.
H: up to 30-45 cm.
Culinary: flowers have a slightly peppery flavour & can be added to salads, soups & rice dishes etc. for both flavour & colour.
Sown from seed in 2008.
