This was Plant of the Year not so long ago. After a couple of failed attempts, I have now worked out this likes part shade and a soil that doesn't dry out

went for a wander along the stream... a good distance from any kind of cultivation.. in an area under balsam spruce and poplar I found wild anemones and canina roses growing happily untended. It's a real thrill to find uncultivated beauties such as these planted by nature and happily existing unknown. I can imagine that it was similar in a way to finding plants growing au naturel on one of your plant hunts in China.
