Oooooh, make sure to put up a photo when the buds open - I'll bet that will be so beautiful! :)

28 Sep, 2017

Medinilla magnifica is commonly sold in bloom over here and people routinely pay big money for them. Madness as they're totally unsuitable to centrally heated houses with long dark winters.

28 Sep, 2017

Wow what a stunning plant those leaves are fantastic to.

28 Sep, 2017

Pamelaanne,

I will definitely post a photo when it starts flowering. :>)

29 Sep, 2017

Meanie:

Medinilla magnifica is sold here, also. It grows outside just barely in San Diego. It's a difficult one to get to flower outside, though (from what I've heard). It needs very hot and humid conditions all year to grow and flower well.

29 Sep, 2017

Penny,

Yes, it's grown for its leaves, also.

29 Sep, 2017

I can see why Andy they are beautiful.

29 Sep, 2017

It's a gorgeous plant or shrub. It grows as an epiphyte in nature.

I'm so glad I'm able to take better care of it this year. It was neglected for a long time. It loves rainwater, also.

29 Sep, 2017

Thats great it grows on another plant in nature.
Yes you shall have to reserve rain water in the future especially for this one Andy.

30 Sep, 2017

I still have some rain water. I am using it for this plant.

1 Oct, 2017

Thats great Andy ☺

1 Oct, 2017

Yes, hopefully in the next couple of months we'll get some rain here in San Diego! Then, I can clean my big containers out and get some new rain water. :>))

1 Oct, 2017

Thet will be great Andy shame you coukd nt have some more containers under ground.

2 Oct, 2017

I know, that would be the ideal condition.

2 Oct, 2017

Yes least liable to evaporate.

2 Oct, 2017

It would be nice to have huge underground catchment tanks. That's would so awesome! :))

3 Oct, 2017

Yes and then you could lead a pipe and tap to it but would that mean digging up your garden and then replanting.

3 Oct, 2017

Unfortunately, it's not going to happen. :>))

5 Oct, 2017

I gathered that Andy.

6 Oct, 2017

Maybe if I hit the Lotto! :>))

7 Oct, 2017

You never know Andy I would nt want to go to Vagas after whats just happened terrible.

lol I think every one wants to win the lotto except me .

7 Oct, 2017

Fortunately, I don't have to go to Vegas to win the Lotto.

I very rarely go to Vegas, it's too hot and dry! It's also a 4 1/2 hour drive.

7 Oct, 2017

Same here Andy we can just do it at our local shops. I was nt sure if you could do the same there.

I can imagine how hot being in the desert a long drive to by the sounds of it.

7 Oct, 2017

Oh yes, I can buy a lotto ticket right around the corner from where I live at the liquor store. lol!

Yes, it's very, very hot in Las Vegas. It's still hot there...although, it's very hot here, too.

8 Oct, 2017

That easy for you then to get to do you study the numbers with the planets .

Yes I would imagine it is hot in Las Vagas still at least it being hot where you live might make your Desert Rose bloom more☺

8 Oct, 2017

Yes, although I never study the numbers. lol

Well, I don't live in the desert; however, this time of year we can actually get hotter than the desert.

The desert bloom is only in very early spring when the desert receives more than average rains in winter. This past spring they had a super bloom. I never got to see it, though.

8 Oct, 2017

I ll send you a pm then ☺

Wow it must be really hot there then just watching programs or films on the desert makes me feel hot.

Yes I was watching a program on tv on Cacti in desert regions how they collect the wster in spring. Thats such a shame you missed the show of super bloom peehap some one filmed it on you tube.

9 Oct, 2017

There should be a lot of footage from the super blooms in the desert. The biggest super bloom ever recorded was in 2005. I did go out there in 2005, it was spectacular!

9 Oct, 2017

I shall have to search the net to see if I can find the spectacular blooms . At least you got to see one display at least . Which desert do I google.

9 Oct, 2017

I've been out there many times. I love to go to the desert in very early spring. The weather is perfect only around 90ºF (32ºC) nice and cool for the desert.

10 Oct, 2017

Thats great you ve been many times and great to go in slring time. That would be classed as hot here lol.

10 Oct, 2017

Yes, 90ºF (32ºC) is pretty hot; however, for the desert it's cool and comfortable. It's been in the 90's the last few weeks out in the deserts. It's perfect for going to visit this time of year.

11 Oct, 2017

At least in the deserts it can not burn down as I ve been reading in the news California big fires distroying a trailer park a place where alcohol is made and the Hilton.

12 Oct, 2017

Yes, there's not too much to burn in the desert.

The firestorms in California have been HORRIBLE! It's been affecting Northern California more than Southern California. I had a bad feeling it would be a horrible fire season. We had a lot of rain and every time there's lots of rain there's a lot more to burn.

It's really sad how much of the wine country that's been affected by the extremely hot, dry Santa Ana Winds (or Diablo Winds).

Us San Diegans know quite a bit about horrible firestorms. The Cedar Fire in 2003 and the Witch Creek Fire in 2007 (in San Diego County) were some of the worst firestorms to hit the U.S.

12 Oct, 2017

Yes your right more rain more growth. Yes that will affect the stock market to with the wine being burned down to will it not I feel for those that bave died because of it I read it killed an elderly couple to.

Lets hope then San Diego does nt have any more like those you ve mentioned. Andy terrible when nature is mightier than man it shows how helpless humams are against it.

12 Oct, 2017

Yes, I hope there isn't any more horrible firestorms here in San Diego County! There's been so many firestorms throughout California over the last couple of weeks. I have a feeling it's just a matter of time here. Because it's been extremely hot and dry here. We have a couple of days on Thursday and Friday of normal temps and then back to another hot, dry heat wave! Ugh!

Last night was so hot it felt like the middle of summer. The temps didn't go below 75ºF (24ºC) all night. It's already really hot and it's only 7:30 a.m. UGH!

17 Oct, 2017

Lets hope there is nt any fires there Andy yes the Californian fires are horrific its worring is nt it especially when your weather is so hot for long distant times then heat waves on top. .

I see Portugal has fires to but heard on the news they say were deliberately started as they started in different areas which they said was nt natural.

Poor you having the hot heat back how you manage to work with lack of sleep I dont know.

18 Oct, 2017

Let's hope we don't have any firestorms!

There's an Excessive Heat Watch which was issued today by the National Weather Service for Saturday through Tuesday. Temps exceeding 105ºF (41ºC) are to be expected for most of San Diego County. Temps of 98ºF (37ºC) or so will be right along the coast.

I'm not looking forward to such horribly hot weather!
:>((

20 Oct, 2017

That would be awful Andy having any fire storms . What gets me with the other fire s they have machines that cut trees down in minutes how come they dont cut back to a distance the fires could nt leap far ahead of where its. on fire a large space created so it has nothing to burn. Or do they make business and money from this burning like insurance and rebuilding houses etc it does make me wonder.

My goodness that is hot I dont envy you thats for sure I can see why your not looking forward to it.

20 Oct, 2017

Unfortunately, during firestorms there's not much that can be done. Especially, if there's strong Santa Ana Winds. It just has to burn out naturally when the winds are strong. There's fire retardant and water drops around the fire...this is the only thing that can be done and most of the time it doesn't help much.

20 Oct, 2017

Just shows nature is mightier than man kind.

20 Oct, 2017

Mother Nature definitely is!

21 Oct, 2017

Glad you agree ☺
