Thats a stunner of a Hosta behind!

Karen, its Hosta June in the chimney pot, still needs to be potted into the chimney pot instead of the pot it is in, a lovely hosta.

Ah...it's grown beautifully large hasn't it. I split mine in to three last year, so it will be a while before it gets to that size.

I dare not split any of mine, knowing my luck it would die for me. lol I have dared to do some Heucheras but they are quite easy for me. I am a coward when it comes to splitting plants lol :O)

Well....I had to move it because it was being scorched by the sun. I dont know if you've moved Hostas, but their roots are absolutely massive and so dense, they really are hard to dig out. So I had to chop it up to get it out. They are sooooo easy to split. You just chop em up into bits and they hardly ever die. So dont be afraid to split a Hosta...its easy, you just need big muscles!

I think your garden is perfect, Barbra.

Karen never lifted one think I might give June a go then and see if I can get some babies from her, thanks for the tips. when is the best time to do the splitting please?

Thank you Waddy :O))

thank you Moti it's purely by accident the plants just happened to be plonked there lol. I never considered the colour combo when I moved the Hosta there in March.

Thanks for the info. Karen, think I will pluck up courage and have a go later on in the year. IF I REMEMBER lol time will tell.

You need a good sharp spade, or a saw. The roots are very dense.

I have a saw on my garden tool rack. I use it for cutting down bean poles in the wood. lol. its nice and sharp. ;o)

I was at the garden centre this morning looking for Hakon, no joy so bought some heucheras' & I saw a young hosta named June that didn't look all that interesting so I left it there - now I'm kicking myself as yours looks so lovely.
I shall have to go back.

Oh & a few weeks back Monty was splitting hostas with a sharp spade & he said to do just when the buds are coming through so early springtime.
