I have never seen it so green in your proximity as this year Stan.

Its really been mild temps with lots of water this year Klahanie. To the right under the shade of the tree's like Maples,Oaks,Sycamores and Bay,you can see the native ferns and mosses..and miners lettuce,a favorite of mine popping up.
Its times like this I wonder if I should have gone native plants.

No, I think you did the right thing to go exotic. You can always take a drive in the country to see native plants. I also have lots of nice natives around. I do not plant them ...they just appear.

Stan,

You're so lucky you received the rain this year. We are so drought-stricken here, I don't even want to talk about it!
:>((

Sometimes, I really do miss those green hills during the winter and early spring up in The Bay Area.

Its verdant right now. The California's Buckeye's leafs look good enough to eat..very tender. People were playing in the creek.
A nice time of the year. Regenerating.

Is this out in Niles Road?

Yep.

I know that road very well. When I lived in Fremont, I used to drive it many times to visit my friends in Palomares Canyon.

Once many years ago in a really bad El NiƱo storm I was almost washed into the river. After I got home I heard they closed to road. As you know it floods a lot during heavy rain storms.

That would scare the ..out of anybody. I know somebody who had a tire rim broken by a rock that fell and hit their car as they drove through Niles.
Then -did you see the train that derailed and went into the river? Nobody seriously hurt. A tree or mudslide. They gave different versions.
As a matter of fact- that main parking area? Where people stop before Sunol to swim in the creak? THATS where the train landed- even now there is yellow police tape tied to oaks.
Its my daily drive for 9 years now. No problems for me so far.

Yes, it was very scary!

I remember in years past during stgrong El Nino years when Niles Road was closed many times because of flooding.

Right now- its even more beautiful...more poppies are blooming- covering a good but of ground. Sort of looks like a desert wildflower explosion..but here more scaled down.
Supposed to be near 90f on Wed. then rain Friday.
So,green isnt done yet.
