Echium and the countryside

Echium and the countryside

Taken from my lower front field. To go from the edge of the last field to the sea is about 175 feet straight down.

Tell me little bit about your landscape there. What are these fields with rock (?) walls around. Looks interesting and so different from countryside I live in.
The Echium looks wonderful.

It is a volcanic island, and not a huge amount of topsoil. Settled in 1450, the main building material was rock. I live in a house made of rocks. Using rocks cleared the fields and they hold up to the strong winds we get. Beef is the main crop, so everything is about cutting the grass to make feed during the summer, planting dent corn for the cows, and letting them graze on fresh grass during the winter. I converted a 4000 sq meter plot of land into my backyard. There are more photos on my flickr page:

I agree with Daglelie - the perfect backdrop for a great plant!
