Is it still looking like a grave because it's square-ish. what happens if you put something at an angle in it?

Thats what I need to do Andrew, my original idea was a Japanese look but I could not get it! Its a 3ft by 2ft BT very deep junction under a concrete cover so in theory they could want to get at it some day so I cannot pile to much on it. Tomorrow I will try putting all the slate across to get rid of the
shape and see if I can make it look like step?

sedums can be small spreading plants which are grown on roofs to make them "green". Could you muster enough shallow dishes like oven trays which could be filled with soil and planted up. If in the future BT wanted access you could simply lift them off. Have a look at this website http://www.safeguardeurope.com/applications/green_roofs.php?gclid=CNn4oYu83bkCFSGWtAodDDcAKA or just google how to construct a green roof.

Agree both with Andrew and scotsgran are heading you in the right direction, only thing I would add is to use clay pans or pots that way moisture is taken in through the sides and equally let out if to wet.there are plenty of other plants that would thrive using the same method.

iam guessing (dont know ) you made the shape as it is so you could find the deep junction (subconsciously) i like the slate you have chosen very nice pieces :) and plants lovely too.... hope you find a satisfactory solution soon....
looking like its almost resolved... just a bit of fine turning then there :) :) :)

I really like it and the slate on the gravel goes so well.

Thanks everyone, I will post a new photo of how I have change the slate around today

wonderful looking forward to that....

How about making it a different shape? Make the gravel area bigger but irregular and then place pots around. if you have room you could put your slate flat to make them look like mini stepping stones. By going outside the area of the cover would allow you to plant some plants in to the ground.

I have done it now (see new pics) but if I ever do it again I would go for your idea of really making a different irregular area Scotsgran as that was my mistake - sticking to the oblong shape of the cover.

I like what you have done. I like the way we can brainstorm to help each other.

So do I Scotsgran sometimes when we cannot see the wood for the trees another perspective can make it seem so easy.

I hardly recognise my garden these days. It is full of members plants, ideas or suggestions altered to suit the microclimate, perspective and me. The world of gardening opened a whole new chapter when i joined Goy.

I found the same Scotsgran its lovely swapping how we garden with each other.
