23.3.12 Fritillaria Mealagris mixed

23.3.12 Fritillaria Mealagris mixed (Fritillaria Mealagris)

easy to see why the common name is Snake's head fritillary - add the snakeskin look of the petals to the snake head look of the pale bud (bottom right). I planted this from a pot of growing bulbs in 2010 and I have added lots more bulbs around the garden in autumn 2011.

I noticed mine were opening up this morning too. I thought I had lost them.

The light coloured bud opened up today and it is a dark flower same as the others.
