(How were the Roses this year?).

Hi Muddywalter. Ooh, a moderate performance so far I would say. I think the June has been just a little cool for very good bud development. I think they need a good 20 degrees to form and open well. How are yours doing?

Hi Jonathan,
A mixed result really - this is my roses second summer and four (climbers) have flowered for the first time, having made good growth last year. I have lost a good few flowers to 'balling', (when the cool, wet weather saturates the outer petals and then the sunshine dries and fuses them into a tight, papery shell, preventing the bud from opening), but have greatly enjoyed the majority.
