This Guadalupe palm was just freshly pruned. This palm is very widely grown all over California. It's a very, very hardy palm able to withstand temps down to almost 18ºF/-8ºC. briefly without damage, however, it prefers dry conditions. Bougainvillea and Jacaranda tree in the background. Photo taken Dec. 13, 2010.

Palmate:
That's darn cold! Hope it'll warm up soon for you. I've seen on the TV news all the snow in the UK which have been causing major problems.
We have a classic "Pineapple Express" (a very moist tropical flow of rain from Hawai'i) feeding into all of California with extreme amounts of rain -- to 20in/508mm already in some places (this may be the major drought buster). We haven't had too much yet in San Diego...but should have a lot of rain over the next 4 days.

I know how this beautiful palm feels. I too prefer dry conditions. Unfortunately it has been well under -8 degrees here lately.
Merry Christmas Delonix.
