22 Nov, 2010

will do Gilli

22 Nov, 2010

I think I'm going to find a recipe that will work in Canada. The flour over here is different and often British recipes don't turn out well. Now I'm on a quest!! LOL

23 Nov, 2010

so what's the difference then in flour, I found that quite intresting, hope you succeed in your quest.

23 Nov, 2010

Well, apart from it being difficult to find self-raising flour here (should the recipe call for that), I'm not sure what the difference is. It must be something in the texture or weight or the way it's milled. It just doesn't bake the same way....things come out heavier and flatter.

23 Nov, 2010

shame you are so far away or I could have sent you a bag of flour. Lol

23 Nov, 2010

LOL....thanks for the thought Yorkshire. :o)

Mine is in the oven Yorkshire , it smells fantastic , have I really got to leave it for a week before I can sample it ????

25 Nov, 2010

try it when it comes out of the oven if its really soft, parkin tends to go hard like its gone stale, but the longer you keep it it comes back, sounds silly but that parkin for you, my husbands went really hard but after a week its going spongey again.

25 Nov, 2010

Oh my G.. Amy, I just read it, I can't stop laughing, I will have to show my OH, please apologise to your husband, what I should have said is you need to wait for it to come again,

25 Nov, 2010

tet I seemed to have dropped myself right in it there, if you read you will know why it has to be kept, I am not going to try and explain after what I wrote to Amy. Lol

It's snowing here , is it as cold your way ?

25 Nov, 2010

Made my day too Amy.
It's just started snowing hard here again which is typical as I've just finished shovelling the driveway!! It has warmed up to -6C this afternoon though. The past week the temps were down in the -19C area.

25 Nov, 2010

Amy

Wow .. -19 it's never been that cold here ... it will probably be about - 2 tonight , it's cosy in here we have the woodburner going full on ..

25 Nov, 2010

We had one night that got down to -23C...Unusual for November. That usually comes in about January.
You sound lovely and cozy Amy. Save me a spot closest to the fire. :o)

I will save you a nice reclining chair so that you can toast your toes Gilli , we have had a lot of snow today , we don't usually have it this early either ... I'll get some chestnuts out to roast as well :o))

26 Nov, 2010

That's a surprise Yorkshire I thought you would have more than us up there , My Parkin has turned out well ,I have wrapped it in tinfoil for the week .. :o))

26 Nov, 2010

glad to hear about the parkin Amy. they seem to be getting the snow on the east coast, just praying we don't get it, going down south next thursday to our daughter and want the weather to be o.k. had so much snow last year we did not get out for ten days, it was horrendous, we finally dug ourselves out with a few neighbours, all O.A.P.s council would give us no help at all, hope you are o.k. down there. keep warm.

26 Nov, 2010

My daughter lives about 1 mile off the east coast , Near Yarmouth and is always complaining because they don't get the snow that we do a few miles inland , the children love the snow , I think it's because the salt air prevents it forming .... I remember your bad winter last year , I wonder if the councils will be better prepared this year with grit and salt there was a bit on the news about how much they had spent on it this year .... where in the south does your Daughter live Yorkshire ?

26 Nov, 2010

she lives at Swindon Amy. had a slight covering of snow last night, just hope it goes away soon,we don't hold our breath with our council, even the local councillor tried to get them to salt and get us out last winter but they refused. not good enough after the amount of money we paid on council tax.

27 Nov, 2010

What a rotten lot you have to deal with Yorks. I hope when they all get older they get snowed in for weeks with no one to dig them out either. What goes around, comes around.!! Miserable bunch of tight fists it sounds like. Oooo...it makes me so mad when the OAPs get ignored.

27 Nov, 2010

Thats right Gilli ! you get your fisty cuffs out and show them ... LOL..
We were down at Swindon last week Yorkshire when we were on a visit to our Granddaughter , my Hubby likes the railway museum which is handy as it leaves me to go off shopping in the stores . :o))

27 Nov, 2010

yes Gilli, they are a rotten lot.

27 Nov, 2010

I have only been to the shopping outlet with her, never been into the town, she lives at St Andrews ridge and the out of town is just 5 mins from her.

I've only been to the shopping outlet as well Yorkshire , the railway museum is in there somewhere , thats why it's so nice , hubby can do his thing while I enjoy a bit off shopping ... we didn't have time to do very much else as our granddaughter wanted us to take her into Bath ! I hope the weather dosn't stop you getting there ! the snow has been thawing today .. I'm not sure what we are in for tonight ......

27 Nov, 2010

LOL...Homebird.

Yorks.....I found some self raising flour!!! Just a tiny little bag but I'm going to try it. It might just work!!
