This was only a small section of the many Pride of Madeira blooming in this large yard in Point Loma, San Diego, CA. Photo taken March 20, 2010.

It's around 8 feet/ 2.5 meters tall. It's an illusion -- looking much larger than it really is...because thy're planted on a side of a hill.

Yes, the biennial plant which dies after it blooms. Yes, this plant has naturalized in Half Moon Bay in the San Francisco Bay Area. They're so beautiful when they bloom. I've seen flower spikes on this plant to 20 feet/ 6.1 meters tall.

Echium fastuosum - Pride of Madeira is a very drought tolerant plant. In fact, it prefers to have the soil on the dry side. It's an easy plant to grow. : > )
