Pitta:

Thanks for posting this for me! : > )

My plant has a little more red further up on the petioles...however, it could be because it is in more sun. I'll have to post a pic...as soon as I clean up my yard from all the unusually intense storms we've had this past week.

I forgot to add that when the stem is cut the inside flesh is quite red. we are ex;pecting Cyclone Olga to make landfall over our area in about 8 hours , Its A catogory 2 st which will be destructive wind maily for trees[we live in a rainforest] and flooding which won't effect us as we live on a gentle slope . My daughter has made all our usual preparations etc so now we wait the outcome
and hope for the best.

How are you faring up there Pitta? I suppose it's getting pretty windy. Are you getting rain? We've had wind gusts through the night here and it's been raining all day so far.

Bernieh, Pitta:

I saw Tropical Cyclone Olga on the internet...it looked pretty intense.

Have you both been hit hard by this cyclone?

I wish you both the best! Take care!

Hi Delonix ... we weren't hit here. Olga deteriorated and crossed the coast near Port Douglas ... it's an ex-cyclone now.

However, we're now under a separate severe weather warning as there's an extensive and vigorous monsoon trough located out in the Coral Sea, which ex-cyclone Neville is now a part of. It might result in possible gale force winds and heavy rainfall. So it's not over yet for us ... the next couple of days will be interesting.

Good to hear you just got the rain Pitta .... yes as you might notice in the comment to Delonix, we're under a severe weather warning now. We've been getting wind gusts which intensified this afternoon, but everything is very still right now - not a good sign. We'll see how it all pans out tonight and into the next couple of days.

Good luck Bernie I know how you are feeling .

Yep ... it's a typical northern Oz summer!

"Situations normal " was an expression my husband used to use .

So far today's been OK ... just wind gusts every hour or so and a heavy downpour every other hour. In town they've had torrential rain all morning, but out here in the hills it's been lovely. The garden is just loving it! The only victim of all the wind was my metre high cosmos ... it's now almost horizontal!!

Just as well you are not living in town. Takting of town someone who used to live in T'ville said there is a frangipani tree at a street junction there that has many different coloured flower colours grafted to it , can't remember the name of the streets , do you know of it .if so could you get a pic when flowers are out .

Bernieh:

Wow! More wild and woolly weather ahead for you. I hope it doesn't cause too much damage!

We have another big El NiƱo storm coming in on Monday night through Wednesday...then again on Friday night possible through Sunday. Well, we wanted the rain...now we've got it in San Diego. LOL! : > )

Pitta:

I'm glad to hear you are doing well there in Cape York! : > )

Thanks for the Aroid website...I'll check it out.

Hi Andy ... it hasn't been too bad today. Lots of heavy rain, which of course we need, and the wind gusts have abated. So what tomorrow brings!

Let's hope you come through your storms OK ... and hey, don't knock the rain ... we both needed it!

Bernieh:

Glad to hear it wasn't too vigorous a storm! The heavy rain is good news for you. : > )

We are going to get moderate to heavy rains tomorrow...without the very strong winds though. We are difinitely not complaining about all the rain. We still need a lot more rain to break our drought.
