March the month to get really started!

Let us hope we have seen the back of the really cold weather, the ground should start to warm up and with the days getting longer it is the right time to start that all important planning. Already I have cleared my greenhouse, washed the windows inside and out (maximum light) and got my staging erected. Early seeds are in, sweet peas planted in February are already an inch tall, the first of my annuals are just peeping through, and the hostas grown from my own seed last year, which wintered in the greenhouse after die back are once again shooting – magic! The geraniums are showing signs of life and will remain in the greenhouse until the risks of frosts have passed. What I love is the actual growing from seed and the planting on, time consuming, but so rewarding. March is the best month for getting rid of dead grass and moss in the lawn, so with a bit of effort rake and remove all the dead stuff, and aeriate if you can. The new grass will soon start to show, and remember to make sure the first cut is not too short, allowing the new growth to become established.

welcome to GoY Oldbadger. Sounds like you're very organised.

Its great seeing everything starting to wake up after winter isn't it and I completely agree growing from seed is so rewarding.

If any of you with big lawns are dreading "doing " them, have you noticed that scarify is very similar to scare-ify?

Welcome to Goy Oldbadger, things are coming on well in my greenhouse as well, its a great feeling and yes the daylight lasting longer is always a joy, luckily I cut my grass last week as its very wet now, always looks a treat after the first cut, never tried growing my own Hostas, bit daft really as I religiously go around collecting my other seeds, not only from my own garden either..
Well done Stera, its a job that definitely scares me, lol...
