Shrewsbury Flower show gets closer!

The week running up to The Shrewsbury Flower Show.

I’m on my way down to the greenhouses now to go through the plants and be sure they are at their best, as much as is possible anyway. Wire the blooms where needed, leaves out of the way of the blooms, and very important i need to be sure that all the plants are secured tightly to their canes and able to travel. The last thing i want is to have beautiful plants and then get to the show ground and find them spoilt on the journey!

I shall need to get some black covering and go down to the showground this week to cover the stand, i expect i will need to put a top rail and side rails on the stand (the people that erect the stands don’t seem to have thought of the plants falling off the stands).

Thursday will be the big day, hire a van and take the plants to set up the display on the stand. This will likely be a full day’s job, loading the van first with blocks and then the plants – the blocks are to stop the plant pots falling over in the van. To the showground and unload, back for another load. Setting up and then taking the van back, unloading the blocks, sweeping out the van and returning it. Last year it was from about 8.30am to 8.00pm. Very busy, but enjoyable day – looking forward to the show now!
