Hi all.

Firstly, I came across this site this morning and I’m so happy i did. What a great site and great people. I have lots of ideas already, so a quick thank you to all that have stopped to say Hi/Welcome.

Ok, so I have decided to enter the local garden competition. We moved into our new home two years ago(new build so a start from scratch garden) and my garden has been slightly over looked while we got the inside of the house sorted. I have planted the odd plant, bulb and hanging basket but this year Im determined to establish the back bone of my front garden and fill it with plants that will mature and grow with our home and family.

So, who’s going to help me win first prize? Any ideas on good solid border plants/wall/fence covering that will better with age? Display ideas for my baskets and pots? Unusual plants/flowers that are easy to grow and will wow the judges(local vicar/housing officer/MP, tho im sure i can sway the MP with a promise to vote for her next year:) )

On that note a nice hot bubble bath and nail scrubber has my name on it, this gardening lark takes it out of you :) x

Welcome to GoY, LP. As a 'newie' myself I can tell you how brilliant and helpful everyone is. I live in a new build too, so my garden is a developing work of art (lol), you'll get tons of ideas for all different aspects of your garden. Enjoy your bath, I'd have a nice cold Chardonnay as well if I was you!!

Thanks all.

Bath was just what i needed, tho i think tomorrow i will invest in some gardening gloves, my nails are shocking :o/ before i crack on with my borders.

Going to plant some gladioli, crocosmia and dahlia bulbs tomorrow and snaffell some cash from the weekly shopping budget to purchase a few climbing plants for my new arch before the kids think its a climbing frame :)
