friends and life thats worth living

Posted on 19 Jun, 2008 13 comments

After reading the james bond blog, I felt the need to agree with all the comments made by fellow gardening friends.
Since joining this site, I have received advice and much needed encouragement. After having to give up my job because we thought I had breast cancer (I had a few ops and the all clear) I didnt know what I was going to do. Well I have always enjoyed gardening but sometimes I get lonely as none of my friends or family are into flowers or gardening and dont seem to understand that my garden is saving my mind but here everyone seems to feel the same. Just want to say a HUGE THANKYOU\ .

Couldn't agree more- I've had 2 life changing events this year that could have caused depression but good friends and happy distractions like GOY keep you going. I too have no gardening friends- or I should say HAD- I have now! All the best. Mike

So pleased to hear that you got the 'all clear'. This really is a friendly site ...I often come on and it always gives me a smile! It's great to hear what everyone is doing and see pictures of their gardens (successes and problems). I love being in my garden, it really does soothe the mind and lift the spirit.
Best wishes : ) Pasuki

I agree with you entirely. Being an ex-pat and surrounded by folk not speaking English, I get great joy from chatting on line about gardens with others who also enjoy their gardens. All the comments are so encouraging and everyone is so kind.

Glad to hear you ve come through what must have been a difficult time for you and your family. So many of us find solace in gardens and nature after life changing events.Think it makes us re-evaluate whats important to us and we realize that material things come way down the list and many of us choose to withdraw from this consumerised pressure.Mmm dont know where that came from back to being bonkers me thinks..

Its lovely to read your Blog, and glad you enjoyed reading my 'James Bond' nonsense! Gardening in my opinion has to be enjoyable and fun, so I do try to bring some humour to this site from time to time. I retired 4 years ago from the busy job of Primary Headship after 35 years in the teaching profession, and wondered how I would ever find a new hobby to fill the void in my hectic life, and since I have been gardening I have realised that there are more important priorites in life rather than material gains. I agree with all the other comments. This site is so friendly and you will 'meet' some lovely folks on this site. Im so pleased to hear that you are recovered from your illness and you are enjoying the friendship from this great gardening community.
With all best wishes, and happy gardening!
Grenville and Alan.

I've always liked Gardening before we moved i had a 20ft garden i did what i could to it and loved it but we had to move because of bad neighbours over a 2 year period they were gradually ruining my garden cutting plants off in my front garden throwing cat litter over and the list goes on.To cut a long story short we decided to move and i think fate was on our side because we found a lovely house with an 80ft garden greenhouse as well i was over the moon.

Anyway we losted our daughter 4 years ago in an road accident she would have been 20 now and i can say my garden has helped me cope with the greiving process it takes you're mind of everything i feel so peacefull when I'm in the garden tidying up cutting the grass etc.I'm glad i found GOY looking through peoples gardens is just great seeing what other people have acheived, and also it serves as a diary for your own personal photos of your garden year after year.

Enjoy your Garden

I agree - I'm going through a bad patch (family illness) at the moment and my garden is my solace. I have been a member of the site for A WHOLE YEAR now and don't regret a minute of it - it's fun and helpful too, and you get to see other people's gardens and flowers...

this will be my first entry, and not at all sure i can keep up with a blog. but so compelled to respond after reading all of the entries to this thread. i certainly have not had to deal with anything comparable to some of the challenges of other respondees, but my (relatively) new-found love of gardening has relieved a great deal of stress in my life and done so much to enhance the already beautiful part. thanks for being willing to share so lovingly and freely.

MAYBE just one day we could have a GOY convention and all do our very best to attend. It would have to be somewhere very large LOL.
Thanks to you all for your kind words.
