Hi, I´ve just discovered this site – it´s brilliant. We are originally from England but have been living in Tenerife for 10 years and bought our house in Valencia, Spain at the end of 2005. We have been reforming it but, as we still have to work in Tenerife and only get to Spain for a couple of months a year, it´s slow going.
We have around 3000sq mtrs of land, with an orchard to the front and woodland at the back, mostly pines so I´ll have to do some shady planting there. The orchard has lots of olive trees but there are so many beautiful trees so I want to replace the olives in time. As water is at a premium these days we´ll probably opt mostly for gravel in different colours and types, and have raised beds and borders (the old back´s not what it used to be). The garden hasn´t had a look in until late 2007, when I put in the rockery and that is really the only bit of gardening that I´ve had time for so far. Unfortunately, when we came back this year it had all but disappeared under 4ft high grass!! The soil is sandy with lots of stones. Our weather can reach over 40º during summer and down to 1º and lots of rain, sometimes snow, in winter.
I´m not a “gardener” as such but love flowers, plants and trees and hope to pick up some help and ideas from other members.
