Genus: Lythrum

The common name for this attractive plant is Loosestrife. With about 38 different species, this perennial looks great planted next to water or in a boggy area.

The spears of tiny flowers are normally borne in summer and come in shades of deep pink, rose red, and purple that keep going for a long time, some into autumn.

Watch out – a mature plant can produce up to 3 million seeds a year that spread easily. It is such a thug that it is seen as a seriously invasive weed in the USA!

Hi gillwahid, lythrum tends to come in shades of purple, pink and red. If you look on the plant profile for Lythrum salicaria, you will see a shot of it in Spritzhenry's garden. It can grow quite big but mine is nearly 3/4 meter tall! They are really stunning - I have a tiny garden too!
