My viburnum seems to have been protected from the snow and frost... maybe helped by the surrounded evergreen shrubs.

I'm working on another word puzzle blog .. for rainy, cold days in 2011 !

31 Dec, 2010

Yes TT, Mrs. Tommy is oblivious to it all, lucky girl and if this weather goes on till the middle of March which I read somewhere she will be getting up late.

5 Jan, 2011

Hi Bornagain... Thanks. Pleased you like it ..
Yes. I have a number of shrubs around my garden which I've trained to climb" up trellises ...

5 Jan, 2011

6 Jan, 2011

Excellent, Bloomer !

... Grease is the word ...
... Greased Lightning ... ;o) !!!

6 Jan, 2011

aaah. those were the days, when we all were "hot stuff"..unfortunately, Ive melted and look all blurred "a round" the edges...

7 Jan, 2011

Lol. Tetrarch ...
but yeah, yeah, yeah - you were ...
... born to hand-jive .. yeah, yeah, yeah... ;o)

7 Jan, 2011

tsk tsk, dont remember that one, I was more pony tail, circular skirts and bouffant petticoats! Rock 'n Roll gal..Bill Haley. Would you believe I watched Grease for the first time last year...
I was thinking it might get the joints "greased" so I could garden easier!!

8 Jan, 2011

Lol. Bouffant petticoats ... bit before my time ... :o)
... "hand-jive" is a song from Grease ...

... but we should be okay ... as long as getting fit for gardening doesn't include having to be too "well-oiled" ;o)

8 Jan, 2011

lol! TT, still got plenty of "oil" left in the Xmas cupboard. Let you into a secret..those bouffant petticoats looked great, but they didnt half make you itch!

8 Jan, 2011

Grease is on channel E4 again tomorow ...
... yet more itchy petticoats ;o)

8 Jan, 2011

Tell me more, tell me more, tell me more.....................
Owww!!!!!! Electricifying!!! Not sure that this is due to the fact that we watched it, me crew in awe of the fact that I knew all the script, and lyrics - LOL!!! Or, due to the tight "pants" Tetrarch!!! :-)))))

9 Jan, 2011

I often wonder, when trying to perform all the oldies myself and the young look on with mouths and eyes wide open..if they are thinking "Wow" or "Ow"...I have a strong feeling when I throw my not inconsiderable weight around that its the latter!! LOL

10 Jan, 2011

I watched it again too..loved it,..Oh,those outfits..and Oh,Oh,those summer nigh...ites!!.I remember those petticoats as well,I wore 2 of them together..one white, and one multi coloured ..did you dip them in a bit of starch to stiffen them? I must have looked like a Parachute..Lol,but boy, could you twirl and strut your stuff in them..despite the itchy legs...:o))))

10 Jan, 2011

Now THAT's a memory Bloomer..getting a clip around the ear cos I used up the best starch instead of flour starch..money was tight in those days and Mother wasnt best pleased!!

10 Jan, 2011

NO PHOTOS YET BUT WORKING ON IT.
MY SISTER AND I SAT IN THE BATH WITH OUR PETTICOATS - IN HEAVILY SUGARED WATER!!! OKAY IF YOU DIDN`T GET CHASED BY WASPS!!!!

12 Jan, 2011

Good luck, Jean with the photos...

can imagine you and your sister trying to avoid the wasps !

Tetra / Bloomer ...
parachutes ?? ... best starch ??

Wow, what a life you've led...LOL.

12 Jan, 2011

We knew all about the good life long before the TV programme..sorry,I shouldn't be speaking for Tetra, but she seems as though she did too..:o)

12 Jan, 2011

Lol. Bloomer :o) x

12 Jan, 2011

Dont forget the high life too Bloomer! Great weren't it!

12 Jan, 2011

love this Tt - rich dark bark contrasts well with the deep green leaves and then whiter than white flowers. What does it smell of and would you be able to give me dimensions of growth. I have a place (wall) that it could suit quite well and I want winter blossom (especially with scent) - could it be trained up a wall from a suitably sized pot ?

11 Mar, 2011

Hi Giroffle ...
The blossom smells quite strongly, but not sickly.... very pleasant ...

"Dawn" is deciduous, and that's why I grow evergreens each side of her, and let the shrubs mingle together. I guess "Dawn" has reached 6 ft in places, but she hasn't grown that fast, so easy to trim to fit the shape you wish.

If in a container, it would need to be a large container which didn't dry out in the summer. My "Dawn" is south-facing, but the soil in that area stays slightly damp all year...

Another plus is that the blossoms continue to appear over several months, before and after Christmas, so a long season of interest...

I hope that answers all your questions :o)

11 Mar, 2011

Tt many thanks...just one further ? You say it is deciduous (sheds it's leaves/blossoms in winter) and then you say...

"Another plus is that the blossoms continue to appear over several months, before and after Christmas, so a long season of interest..."

How can this be ? Just so I understand

Thanks

12 Mar, 2011

Hi again Giroffle ...

There are blossoms on "Dawn" several weeks before Christmas, and then new flowers appear, on and off, all the way through till early spring... in other words ...

... flowering period October to March... with flowers emerging more during the milder spells of weather ...

So "Dawn" looks pretty, with blossom and lovely scent, for sometimes up to 6 months ....

"Dawn" is deciduous in that it has leaves through the summer months which it sheds in the autumn...

Please ask again if you still don't understand.. I don't mind :o)

12 Mar, 2011

...that's perfect thanks Tt

12 Mar, 2011
