that's very nice of you both, Four Seasons and Olblueyes, much appreciated. Am surprised to receive comments so quickly after uploading the photo here :) Happy you like it.
Am hoping to capture some new images of the hummers at the bleeding heart plants this year, - everything is behind this spring, so not sure when they'll be blooming.

I love these little guys. They are so colorful and their antics are fun to watch...pictured next to the Bleeding Hearts gives a good indication of size...

fantastic photo, really gives a good idea of the size of these lovely birds

thankyou also to Terratoonie, Skippy and Mageth for the very encouraging comments. Agreeing that it does give a good idea as to the size of these tiny birds. (I have lots more :) It becomes a bit of an addiction, trying to capture good images of the hummers :)

It's very time consuming trying to get nice photos of these guys, but also so rewarding when you do get a good one :) This photo is superb! The detail is amazing and the colorful background is nice too :)

Hi Tasteya, thankyou for the nice comments also. You are so right about it being very time consuming trying to capture images of these little guys/gals. Can't tell you how much time I've spent, either at the open front window, or on a chair on the patio, waiting for "the perfect shot". Not sure it's happened yet. I can sit out there without the camera and the hummers aren't at all wary, - but the moment they see the camera, off they go.

Fantastic photo Alandra. Well done and welcome to GoY. Are you down at the coast? I'm in Kamloops. :o)

Hi Gilli, thanks very much and also for the welcome. It's really a nice site and am enjoying it. I replied partially on the other hummer pic, but will add more here. Yes, we're about half an hour south of Vancouver, close to the Canada/US border at WA state. Near the ferry terminal, to the Island, in other words.
Interested that you were also born in England. My aunt and uncle lived at Leeds (Roundhay) years ago, and I visited them there for a few wks last time there. We (including their daughter, my cousin who was a couple years younger than me) travelled all over the county to many lovely places, infact I went on holiday with them to Scarborough, while staying with them. Celebrated my 20th birthday while there.

Sorry how rude of me,Welcome to GoY and Thanks for sharing your flowers and beautifu wild life.I have these Dicentra but would never have imagined a Hummigbird feeding from the flowers...

hi again and thankyou, Bernieh, glad you like it.
And Tina, it never entered my mind that anyone here is rude. Everyone has been so friendly and kind about commenting on my photos. But I do appreciate your welcome. I have felt very welcome ever since I joined.
Know what you mean re being surprised about the hummers feeding from the dicentra flowers, as usually it's the tubular type of flowers that they feed from, and it doesn't look as if they'd be able to get their beaks into the dicentras. But they seem to like them. thanks to you and your hubby again.

Hello Doon, many thanks. Great to see someone else here from BC also, - am wondering how many others there are in this group, besides Gilli, you and me that live in BC?
Are you back from AZ yet? If you live around the same area we do, you'll be wishing you're back there, with this horrible unsettled weather we're having!

I heard about your storm last night Alandra. Is everything OK? We've had a fair bit of wind but not much in the way of rain.
I am not sure but I think it is just us three in BC. In Ontario there are Lori, Gillian, Elke and maybe 2 others. There is NewfieNurse in Newfoundland and Loribiscuit in New Brunswick. Those are all the Canucks that I know of.

Hi Gilli, thanks for your concern. We didn't have much of the storm here, glad to say. It was windy and we had rain, but nothing drastic. Late last night I managed to get out with the dogs in between the rain, so was happy about that.
Thanks for the info re the other Canucks onlist here.
I have to spend some time looking further at everyone elses' photos. Think I need two lives, LOL.

LOL, Alandra.....I know exactly what you mean. I could spend all day on GoY trying to see everything and read everything. Too bad work and sleeping and eating get in the way. :o)

agreeing with you, Gilli. Often say/think that if we didn't have to take time to make meals, think of all the time we'd save, lol. But then, we have to eat, right. At least with summer coming (hope hope :) we can eat a lot of Greek salads and that should take less time. Bought some nice big English cukes yesterday, and some "on the vine" tomatoes, so all we need is a nice warm day. I even got some dry cottage cheese, to eke out the Feta cheese, as want to try to cut out some of the calories involved with the feta, altho do love it. We go the the Greek deli on West Broadway (in our old area) and they have the best assortment of feta, hummus and all that sortof stuff.

Hello Alandrapal, I am back on Gabriola Isl. & the weather in April has been a 10, but lately May has been the pits. I have been away from Goy so long, so where R U. I know I am not suppose to ask, but promise not to drop in or come & raid your garden. LOL!!!!!! We had all garden furniture out, but now not such 'rich' weather.
My peas are about 12cm. high & lettuce will be ready in a week. Take in consideration we only arrived back in BC from AZ April 2nd.

Hello Doon. good to hear from you. Am in S.Delta, near the ferry terminal.
Agree with you about this terrible weather. Seems like Spring just doesn't want to happen. In all the years we've lived here, have never known such a long drawn-out winter and strange spring. I recall Expo year we had a lot of rain in the May, but don't recall it being so cold. At nights it's still quite chilly.
Glad your peas are doing well, - believe they do like the cooler weather to get started, but beans like it warmer, altho we don't grow veggies anymore. I don't mind a few tomato plants in pots and cukes, but gave up on the veggies, - don't like the slugs crawling all over it.
My DH lived in AZ many years ago.

I remember Expo year....April 26th 1986 it snowed up Grouse Mountain. I remember that because my wedding reception was up there. We had picked there so out of town guests would be able to see the view. It was snowing a blizzard and socked in with thick cloud.....couldn't see a thing. It was quite the experience coming off the gondola down the steel steps and across to the restaurant in thick snow wearing heels and a long wedding dress.....trying not to fall flat on my face. LOL
14 May, 2009
Yes that was quite the year, I was gearing up for a triathlon and stayed in the West end in the Sylvia(remember that one) for 4 days to go & attend Expo, we would race around Stanley Park 2x flat out speed (scared to miss out on my training......(really how stupid, looking back) & then go shower & walk around the Pavilions. We were absolutely bushed at night.
Gilli your wedding sounded exciting, oh to be young & nothing pulls us back, no wedding dress, high heels in a snowstorm. Great story!!!
14 May, 2009
Thanks Doon. Long gone days I'm afraid. Now I'm lucky to come down any steps without creaking and cracking of the knees!! LOL
16 May, 2009
Thats Ok girl, as long as U still garden & go down the stairs creaking & crackling, it means we r alive & LIVING, yahoo!!!!
18 May, 2009
Yee Haa!! "Creaks" will have to be my new nickname!! Hee hee hee.
